Trainers in September 2014
Trainers tend to be creatures of habit and in this article I am looking at flat racing performance in September over the past five seasons (2009 to 2013). Profits and losses in this article have been calculated to £1 level stakes to SP. I have concentrated on UK racing.

Roger Varian has performed well in this month in recent years - a strike rate of 23% and a return on investment of 24% is good going. Varian has won 3 out of 4 when travelling to Brighton; 4 from 6 when going to Salisbury and 5 from 12 when making the trip to Wolverhampton. His female runners are the real ones to watch though thanks to 19 winners from 66 (SR 28.8) for a profit of £56.36 (ROI +85.4%). If you solely focus on 3yo females from the Varian stable this record improves to 13 wins from 39 (SR 33.3%) for a profit of £54.71 (ROI +140.3%).
Another trainer with a positive September record is Saeed Bin Suroor. he has had over 400 runners so to make a 'blind' profit is impressive, especially as many of his runners would start at relatively short prices. Bin Suroor had a poor 2011 in terms of Setember but the other four years he has made a profit in each of them. As with Varian his female runners tend to do well in this month as do his runners in Listed events.
